What is the burner assembly?
A burner assembly is the core component in a gas furnace where air and gas are ignited to produce heat. It generally includes:
Eelectrode Igniter: Ignites the pilot light
Burner: Where the gas burns
Orifice: Controls the amount of gas sent to the burner
Pilot tube: Supplies gas to pilot light
Thermocouple or Flame Sensor: Detects if the flame is burning and turns off gas when it goes out
Where is it located?
The burner assembly is located at the bottom of the furnace behind a small door.
Maintenance Tips
Clean Burners with wire brush for rust and debris annually
Clean electrode on igniter with small brush and alcohol annually
Clean orifice with a paperclip annually
Lifespan
The lifespan of the burner assembly 10 - 15 years.
