What is a gas valve?

A gas valve is a component of a gas furnace which regulates the flow of gas to the burner. It opens up sending gas to ignite the burner when the thermostat signals for heat.

Where is it located?

It is located outside near the gas pipe coming up from the ground by the gas meter. It requires a wrench to open or close.

Inspect for any rust or debris every 3 months

Check that the valve is receiving 24V at ignition annually

Check that the pressure is correct and the valve is able to open annually

Inspect the wiring annually

Lifespan

The lifespan of a gas valve is 10 - 20 years.
